A PERFECTLY SOUND SCENARIO BY GREAT GABLE

This week we are returning to an old segment of ours, one that has been swept under the covers for a little bit now: A Perfectly Sound Scenario. We are stoked to be bringing a new selection of album suggestions to you, this time, picked by the hands of Great Gable. They have given us five of their favourite albums and the best time and place to listen to them. A little bit of a peak inside the the brains of the band!

We first caught up with Great Gable mid last year when they were running hot off the release of their album On the Wall in the Morning Light. They found great success in the release, landing themselves triple j’s feature album and selling out shows across the country. A year on and they are working on new material, having just released their single ‘Pumpernickel’ as a sneak peak. ‘Pumpernickel’ is a sweet, tangy tune that feels personal and loveable, like a letter almost. Its slower sections hold drowned out synthy sounds guided by jumpy drum beats, which all feels a little bit like a rollercoaster (that you’re thoroughly enjoying). Keep an eye out for more new music from Great Gable, it’s set to be a pretty darn good one! But for now, take a listen to their top five albums suggestions, there’s some gems in there.

MATT

Fazerdaze - Morningside

Release Date: 5 May 2017

Length: 30:51

Label: Flying Nun Records

Producer: Amelia Murray

Selected by Matt

SCENARIO: I’ll listen to this late at night with a glass of red.

WHY: I recently discovered Fazerdaze and her album Morningside, and it feels like I’ve known this album forever. It has a nostalgic and sentimental feel to it.

Daywave - Pastlife

Release Date: 24 June 2022

Length: 29:50

Label: PIAS Recordings

Producer: Daywave

Selected by Matt

SCENARIO: Daywave’s album Pastlife is a favourite to listen to when I feel like I need inspiration to write some new music

WHY: The songs have a refreshing and interesting take on production while still having strong songwriting at their core. You could hear those songs on an acoustic guitar and still like them.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Blood Sugar Sex Magik

Release Date: 24 September 1991

Length: 73:42

Label: Warner Records

Producer: Rick Rubin

Selected by Chris

SCENARIO: Blood Sugar Sex Magik by Red Hot Chili Peppers is a record I’ll play whenever I’m lacking motivation to play bass.

WHY: Flea’s playing on the album drove me to practice religiously when I was ten years old, which in itself inspires me to keep going!

The Drums - Portamento

Release Date: 13 September 2011

Length: 45:22

Label: Island Records

Producer: Connor Harwick, Jacob Graham, Jonathan Pierce

Selected by Chris

SCENARIO: The perfect time and place to listen to Portamento by The Drums is upon waking!

WHY: The record is 53 minutes in length, which is roughly about the time it takes for me to get ready for the day, and make breaky and a coffee before heading out into the world. The album is melancholy at times, but overall its carefree, laidback nature sets a nice tone for the day ahead!

Mk.gee – Pronounced McGee

Release Date: 18 May 2018Orc

Length: 39:14

Label: Orchard Ears

Producer:

Selected by Cal

SCENARIO: Awesome, chill album for driving and hanging with your mates.

WHY: Pronounced McGee by Mk.gee is an album I find myself always heading back to. It’s got a couple of sick grooves and tasty solos. Hard to pick a favourite song because there’s so many good ones.
