BLEEDING TRUE AN EXHIBITION BY SQUASH BUG

My dear friend Ruby Weekes known as Squash Bug, is a figurative-abstract artist, hailing from the Sutherland Shire and is having her debut exhibition Bleeding True this Friday 14th of April at Clifton School of Arts! Where you can expect boundless works of art, a deep and true representation her own creative journey, fuelled by an incredible practise, pretty much creating all of her own raw materials.

Ruby takes on an interestingly innovative approach to her art. Drawn to contrasting colours and textures, she breathes life into what she can find, often utilising materials such as discarded wood and upcycling them through her practice.

The beginnings of alter ego "Squash Bug" seemingly stirred throughout Ruby's youth. Between the intimate four corners of her bedroom, you will find Ruby; pouring life into pieces that brim with the expression of work that bleeds true. The bounty of fervent emotions that lie within, and exert themselves so effortlessly in Ruby's cathartic practice, prevents viewers from assigning any particular meaning or purpose to her work. This space allows for a more sensory viewing experience, and in turn encourages observation in the purest and most holistic form.

Being her first solo exhibition, this curation is extremely personal and holds significant importance to Ruby. She's decided to display a variety of works from different stages of her creative journey, to honour veritable truth and celebrate ever changing ideas.

"There is great restriction in knowledge and power in the unknown, with responsibilities tendency to subdue whimsical curiosity. In this way, my practice of not-knowing (or automatic surrealism) is boundless and powerful, much like our dreams. It’s only until one decides to share the product that vulnerability suffuses itself over your expression, and suddenly, this power is in the hands of the viewer. It really is magic, how I can feel so powerful in my process yet so exposed and vulnerable standing with my product. With this, I find my process extremly cathartic, thinking less and feeling more fuels my creativity."

Be sure to catch her work at Clifton School of Arts, with the opening night this Friday 14th of April and hung up until the 16th. If you wish to look at the catalogue Ruby said she is happy to share if you email her here: squash.bugg@gmail.com
