WAH-WAH’S WANDERERING SOUNDS
For this installment of Wandering Sounds we asked Kaylene Milner, founder of Australian knitwear brand WAH-WAH if she’d like to participate. With a fashion brand built on music, art, collaboration and community we thought she would be the perfect candidate for the job. And weren’t we right.
Kaylene has crafted you a playlist “full of Kungka kunpu (strong women)”, thought through as she made the journey from Canberra back to Wollongong after visiting the opening of proud Yankunytjatjara woman Kaylene Whiskey’s exhibition opening at the National Portrait Gallery; Super Kaylene Whiskey. Inspired by Kaylene Whiskey’s paintings, this playlist is bringing strong women to the front as “you’ve gotta be pretty god damn strong as a woman in the Australian music industry”.
Expect boppy, fun and a completely female forward collection of songs, highlighting a huge range of Australian made music. Discover Indigenous Australian bands, queer Australian bands and emerging female Australian bands. Listen where you can or go see them play next time you see one of the names below pop up on a line up! And thank you so much to Kaylene for putting this playlist together–it’s now my new go to.
