YOUR MARCH GIG GUIDE
It’s the start of autumn which means it’s a new month March, and it’s also the month of Great Southern Nights. So we’ve got you sorted with an even more stacked amount of gigs to see in venues across NSW and beyond! This month with Great Southern Night’s in full swing, bringing live music to the masses with over three hundred shows featuring predominantly Australian acts all across central, regional, and rural areas of NSW from March 8 – 24. We have picked out our favourites from this huge program and present them alongside a few other artists and shows we are real keen to see.
For Wollongong, a lot of the Great Southern Night’s shows were organised in collaboration with Yours & Owls, offering up their numerous venues with regular weekly shows:
Dicey Riley’s AND Shark Bar (NEW!) on Saturdays, Towradgi Beach Hotel on Fridays, and the famous North Gong Sundays, which is slowly regaining its appeal after moving its indoor set up to a more gig friendly spot in the pub. Together, GSN and Y&O also feature a “Local Showcase” with upcoming acts from Wollongong and Sydney areas, plus almost all of these ones are free entry!
GSN also collaborates with independent event promoters/companies like La La La’s weekly techno showcase BAD SUNDAY’s and Black Sand’s alt hip hop event headed by Bayang tha Bushranger, as well as indie labels like Village Sounds, Silhouette Records, Holy Pavlova & Third Eye Stimuli.
If the idea of heaps of artists and bands getting to play won’t convince you to show up,
just think about the boost to the industry as a whole including the creative and hospitality industries. This gives hope to a sustainable gig utopia. Everyone buys a beer, has a good time, and still, everyone gets paid! Fostering more people doing what they love doing and creating a better more creative community.
With this significant contribution by Great Southern Nights, our March calendar is full of shows to see, across genres and scenes. For any and all keen on gig-going in March, you are similarly spoilt for choice.
[My birthday is on the 12th of this month, which happens to be the same as the show I am most anticipating so that is an extra present for me :D.]
